Deep Fried Turkey Seasoning: Just In Time For Thanksgiving!

Deep fried turkey in combination with deep fried turkey seasoning is delicious and more and more appealing to home cooks, despite the dangers that deep frying pose when cooking at home, in an enclosed environment. That aside, if you want to cook turkey this way, you should know that the right seasoning does wonders for your dish. If you’re interested, just follow these few cooking steps.

It is recommended that you cook this meal outside (driveway, back yard, etc.), not too close to the house and never in the garage. Why? This type of cooking is usually messy and there is always the chance of a “flare up”, and you don’t need that inside or next to your house.

After you have decided what size of turkey you want, choose a pot and preferably buy peanut oil to deep fry it. Also, decide on the deep fried turkey seasoning blend that you want to use. In case you are not familiar with the blends found in superstores, just buy bulk seasoning spices and herbs that you know work well with cooking turkey meat. In case the peanut oil is too costly for your dish perperation, then you can always use regular cooking oil.

Before focusing on the deep fried turkey seasoning, you need to wash the turkey and tie the legs and the wings to the body of the bird after it has already been fully defrosted. After that, you should dry the bird so that you can rub the deep fried turkey seasoning on it. Another way to flavor the turkey meat would be to inject the seasoning in the meat, especially, in the parts which are thicker and would normally become flavored less while cooking (yum!).

Then add enought oil in the pot to cover the turkey and heat it up to 400 degrees. Wait until the oil temperature has reached 400 degress before you add the “DRY”, seasoned turkey to the pot. Always use cooking gloves: the risk is that you might get burned as the oil will splatter, so be very careful when you perform this procedure. Your meal will be ready in about half an hour, so make sure you do not leave it in longer.

The classic recipe for deep fried turkey seasoning consists of the following ingredients: salt, onion and garlic powder and red pepper flakes. Some people prefer only salt and freshly ground pepper to make a delicious turkey meal. The ingredients should be mixed together, then the blend can be rubbed on the turkey both on the outside and the inside. this operation cannot be performed easily unless the turkey is well dried. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
