Most of us want to live in the best communities, where the neighborhoods are safe and the people are friendly. It has been my experience that great places to live are not too hard to find if you take some simple steps and have a good plan of attack.
The first thing to do is use the internet to do some research. All kinds of web sites will give you information on different communities, from housing prices to the local school districts to crime rates to median household income. People have different ideas about great places to live, and you can see the information for yourself and make that determination.
Another great way to find out is to post a question to a web site about the city. They are not usually hard to find, and you should just be honest and say that you are looking for a good place to live and wanted to find out some people’s thoughts about a particular community. It has been my experience that you will receive a number of responses filled with first-hand, personal experiences.
Many communities have their own web sites that advertise themselves as one of the great places to live, but you can find out a lot about a community through their own web site, as well. Such things as police and fire department information, information about the city council and all kinds of things on the rights of citizens can be found on these sites.
One of the most important things to do if you’re looking for great places to live is to make a trip to the communities in which you are interested. You should not just drive through the town, either. Make it a point to get out of your car, stop in shops, have a bite to eat and mingle with some of the locals. You can tell a lot about a town by how friendly the people are.
My wife and I were looking for great places to live and just asked some of our friends what they knew about a couple of different towns and cities. It is amazing what people know, or who they might know who has lived in one of the towns and their experiences living there. Word of mouth can be a great way to learn about communities.
There are numerous ways to find out what are some of the great places to live, and you don’t have to move there in order to find out. If you just take a little time out of your schedule to do some research and then compare the pros and cons to your own community, you might be surprised by what you discover.
