Keeping valuables safe is a pressing issue for most families and businesses. Families have documents, jewelry, and heirlooms that are often irreplaceable. Keeping those valuables secure in an electronic safe, like a Sentry Safe, can bring peace of mind. Researching electronic safes and finding an electronic safe that matches your needs often offers reassurance to a small business owner as well. Defining your electronic safe needs is a helpful way to start your search for an electronic safe.
There are different options for safe entry available, whether they are keyed or electronic digital keypad or combination locks. There are varying degrees of cash ratings, which affect the security levels and locking mechanisms of the safes, such as dual locking, maybe with key and electronic, key and combination, or combination and electronic digital access locks. Time rating is the time delay required to compromise the safe door by picking locks or by tampering with tools or experimenting with combinations. It also measures the time to get through a certain thickness of door.
In a business, with employee turnover, it is reassuring to know that digital electronic or combination entry can be easily and immediately reprogrammed, when you have terminated an employee. If terminated employees are aware of this ability, they will automatically assume that is the first thing you did when they left. Keys can be “lost”, making it necessary to have the lock changed or the lock drilled and re-keyed to protect against a terminated employee or “lost” keys and this is often dependent on a locksmith coming out. There has been a lot of hype as to the 3G technology in mobile telephony. What the heck is 3G? 3G technology is the latest technology in mobile communications and it stands for ‘third generation’. Earlier standards, first and Second Generation, which were analog cellular technology and digital/PCS technologies respectively, have been replaced by the faster 3G technology. 3G mobile phones are intended to be true multimedia cell phones that offer increased bandwidth and transfer rates that accommodate phone-based audio and video files as well as web-based applications. Typically, smart phones are 3G mobile phones.
Compared to earlier 2G phones with a download speed of up to 144Kbps, 3G mobile phones have transfer speeds of 3Mbps (. This means that while it would take you about 8 minutes to download a 3-minute song on a 2G phone, it would take you only 15 seconds to make the same download on a 3G phone. This opens up opportunities for 3G mobile phones to be used to download large multimedia files from the internet and send and receive large files at these 3G high data rates. Furthermore, these phones act as mini-laptops being able to support broadband applications like video streaming from the web, video conferencing and instant email downloads with attachments.
3G mobile phones use certain mobile telecommunications standards which includes GSM EDGE, CDMA2000 and UMTS. Others include DECT and WiMAX. So if you come across a phone or equipment with these labels then you can sure than 3G technology is in use there. There are also other cool things that are made possible by 3G technology. For example, you can use 3G mobile phones to communicate with your friends in a wide area wireless environment and share data wirelessly. Furthermore, high data speeds of up to 14Mbps per second for downlink and 5.8Mbps for uplink means that you can have transfer of speech and data simultaneously allowing for advanced uses of this technology in many ways by mobile operators. Over the last 10 years, the impact of wireless communications on how we live and do business has been undeniable. Wireless internet access has changed the world and the potential for wireless to further expand its boundaries is already being felt, thanks to its creators who are taking Wi-Fi technology to previously unexplored lengths.
Whether we are using our mobile phones or our Wi-Fi’d computers, the need to stay on and always connected has never been more essential. In fact proponents speculate that soon everything, our cars and home appliances will be too. As with the internet itself and the forces that have shaped it, wireless internet access has taken a shape that has emerged from the imaginative twists and turns that have been made possible by digital technology. As one magazine put it, ‘ Wi-Fi is itself a shining example of how wireless technology can shed the tethers of conventional wisdom.’ At one point, it was assumed that wireless internet access was only possible through the investment-heavy standards that giant corporations have adopted. However, this was not to be so.
Think about it, Wi-Fi came about when it was discovered that an unlicensed ‘junk band’ spectrum could be used for communication. Later referred to as 802.11, this range of signals turned out to be a great way to extend wireless internet access in the home or office. Eventually, hotspots started emerging with the goal of offering free wireless internet access to anyone who ventured within the range of these hotspots. Even places that had resisted bandwidth, especially remote areas have not escaped the Wi-Fi craze and pioneers are bringing wireless to these distant places. One advantage of wireless internet access is the fact that it does not require a big upfront infrastructure investment and is a low cost method of offering internet access. Continue Reading »
The Nintendo DS Lite is an excellent upgrade to the original Nintendo DS. It’s a smaller and prettier model with a thicker stylus, better-located microphone and retention of all of the DS’s great features. Some might be a little perturbed by the fact that the smaller size forces Game Boy Advance games to protrude from the system, but this is a small sacrifice for its many improvements.
North America waited for the Nintendo DS Lite with much anticipation. Everything always gets released in Japan first, obviously, but sometimes it seems like they get everything else better too. Some games are released in Japan but not in the U.S., Japanese games don’t suffer from bad dubbing, and when DS Lite made its debut in Japan, it was available in 3 colors: polar white, ice blue and enamel navy. Due to manufacturing problems, when DS Lite reached America it was initially only available in polar white.
But when it comes to Nintendo, the motto truly is, “Good things come to those who wait.” No doubt many Nintendo DS owners were dismayed when the Nintendo DS Lite upstaged their consoles. Fortunately, some stores allowed them to trade in their DS systems and buy the DS Lite at a reduced price, following the same practice that was instituted with the Game Boy Advance SP. If you buy a new computer these days, chances are it comes preloaded with a program designed to protect the machine against viruses. You usually get either McAfee or Norton, both of which are system resource hogs that you probably need to renew with paid subscriptions after a year or two. Moreover, those two programs are notorious for causing computers to hang up or “freeze”, and for not flagging infections. These problems can be eliminated by opting for free antivirus software instead.
There are many websites out there that offer a large selection of free antivirus software that you can download now and install instantly. These programs are 100% free, and often there’s no need to buy anything or register with your email address. Sure, in many cases you’ll be asked to pay for a more sophisticated version that comes with lots of additional features, but obviously there’s no obligation to upgrade. Just stick with the free antivirus software that you originally downloaded, update the definitions when prompted to do so, and you’ll be fine.
While it’s great that open source or free antivirus software is readily available, how should you go about choosing one? They aren’t all of the same quality, nor do they possess the same capabilities, so this is an important point. I recommend reading reviews of any free antivirus software that you’re thinking of installing on your computer. You want to make sure that the program works at detecting all the viruses and spyware that your PC could become infected with, and that it’s effective at safely removing those threats once they have been flagged. User reviews should tell you all of this. Plus, they might alert you to other bugs or quirks that you should watch for after installation, thereby saving you from a few headaches later on. We live in something called the world of electronics. Okay, maybe I just coined that phrase, but it sounds legit, doesn’t it? I mean, think about it, we use machines and electronics for everything from ordering a pizza, to sending a letter. How did we ever exist without them? This is the prime reason why everyone should acquire some basic computer training. Think of all the jobs these days that require basic computer training. Better yet, ponder all the ones that don’t. It’s much easier. When my friends ask me why they need basic computer training, I remind them that Its always good to know a little bit about something you use every day. If you don’t, you always have to rely on someone else to help you.
My sophomore year of college, I took a class on computer fundamentals. I figured this would come in handy sooner or later, and especially after school. Well, it actually came in handy earlier than expected. Not long after the basic computer training course, I obtained a job where the skills were necessary. Even part-time high school and college jobs require basic computer training. I spent three years working for a video store chain. Most of the time I was on a computer. I bartended at a fancy hotel for a year. All money was handled through a computer system. Not many people use the old-school cash registers anymore. Basic computer training has simply become part of our standard environment. Everyone coming out of college these days is expected to have some basic computer training at the least. Continue Reading »
Setting up a wireless network in your home is easy, affordable, and, above all, convenient. Imagine being able access the Internet from any point in your home! You could check your e-mail from your bedroom, while watching TV or even outside on a porch. This kind of flexibility is available for you with a wireless network router.
A wireless network router takes your incoming Internet connection, whether it’s DSL, cable or fiber-optic, and converts it into a wireless broadcast signal. Any device with a wireless network adapter will sync up to your wireless network router and, in a matter of minutes, your home wireless network is setup.
But is it secure? Your wireless network router doesn’t automatically discriminate between your laptop and your neighbor’s. So what is the big deal? Do I really need to secure my wireless network router? In a word, yes. A secure wireless network router means a number of things. First of all, it could cost you more money to have an unsecured wireless network router. Many Internet providers include a set limit on the number of downloads. This limit is usually generous enough to never be a problem – but what if you have a couple of neighbors who “steal” your signal and download all day and night? It’ll cost you money!
Not to mention that access to your wireless network router can put your privacy at risk. Many home networks are now fluid enough that you can access the files on any computer attached to the nework, via shared folders. This can be very useful. You can access a spreadsheet on your desktop from your laptop in a different room. But it can also be very dangerous – if you can use your wireless network router to view the spreadsheet, so can a neighbor. Continue Reading »
