| When most people think of a New Years Eve party, they picture a party with mostly adults and do not usually think of children when considering these types of parties. However, each year many New Years Eve parties either include kids or are planned specifically for kids. Whether you are planning to throw a New Years Eve party for your children or your friends or are simply planning to allow your adult guests to bring their children to the party, there are some considerations which must be taken when planning a New Years Eve party.
One of the most obvious considerations is alcohol consumption. Obviously it is inappropriate to allow minors to consume alcohol so the party host should plan on other beverages for the children at the party. They might want to consider serving mocktails which are non alcoholic versions of cocktails. These mocktails are a lot of fun and will help to prevent the children from being envious of the drinks the adults are enjoying because they will have their own fun and colorful drinks. When creating mocktails for children it is important to focus on the presentation. Creating colorful drinks and serving them in festive glasses is a good idea. The host should also give some consideration for alcohol consumption for adults and might consider placing a drink limitation to prevent the adult guests from becoming inebriated during the party. Food should also be carefully considered when planning a New Years Eve party which will include children. This is important because children can be rather picky about their food. Fortunately appetizers are perfect for New Years Eve celebrations and most kids enjoy appetizers. Foods such as mini pizzas, hot dogs and hamburgers are particularly popular with kids. Similarly, simple foods such as cut up pieces of fruit or cheese or also popular with kids. The host may wish to plan on having an assortment of kid friendly appetizers as well as more sophisticated appetizers for the adults. One example of a cute food idea is to have sushi for the adults and to make an appetizer resembling sushi for the kids. This can be done by cutting the crusts of pieces of white bread, spreading peanut butter on the bread and layering pieces of strawberry on the peanut butter. The bread can then be rolled up and cut to resemble pieces of sushi. The kids will enjoy having an appetizer that looks like what the adults are eating but will also enjoy the taste of their own unique snack. Continue Reading »
Many hosts spend a great amount of time planning the food and cocktails for their New Years Eve party and do not give as much consideration to the type of entertainment they plan to have at their New Years Eve party. This is unfortunately because New Years Eve parties offer a great opportunity to participate in some really fun games. New Years Eve parties tend to last longer than many other parties so traditional entertainment options such as dancing may not be enough to keep the guests entertained. One fun way to spice a New Years Eve party is by playing different games. This article will offer some fun ideas games to play at a New Years Eve party.
New Years Eve is a holiday which is synonymous with alcohol consumption. The popularity of alcohol consumption is the inspiration for one idea for a game to play on New Years Eve. You can play a game by giving each person a word which is likely to come up in casual conversation and writing that word on a nametag for each person to wear during the evening. Guests are required to carry a shot of a vodka at all times and if another guests catches them saying the word on their nametag they have to take their shot and then pick up another shot to carry in case they are caught again. This game is fun because it encourages guests to mingle as they attempt to think up ways to get other guests to try to say their word. The game can be made more difficult by placing the name tag on each persons back so they cannot see the word but other guests can. This means the guest not only has to try to avoid saying the word but also has to figure out what the word is. When playing this game, care should be taken to avoid the gam e being the cause of the guest becoming inebriated. One way to do this is to put a limit on the number of shots a person can consume. They can take the sticker off once they reach their limit and the last person with a sticker is declared the winner and may be awarded a surprise. Games which involve dancing are also very popular on New Years Eve. One game which is a lot of fun is similar to a game played by children. It involves periodically stopping the music while guests are dancing. Each time the music stops, the guests are supposed to freeze in one position. One person is designated as the judge and each time the music stops, the judge eliminates the last guest to freeze his position. The last guest remaining is declared the winner of the game. Finding good gifts for girlfriends can seem like a daunting task. Many women are extremely finicky in what they like or don’t like, and if you’re dating a girl like this it can make their approaching birthday seem like an impending doom. What can you possibly get her that she’ll be sure to like? What if she just hates it? What is going through that head of hers at any given moment, and what is the deal with the toilet seat thing??
These are all some examples of questions that race through my mind whenever there is an approaching gift-giving obligation for my girlfriend. Of all the gift giving events in any given year, it is the gifts for girlfriends that puts me the most on edge. You’re saying a lot when you get a gift for your girlfriend, no matter what you get them. Every gift has a message behind it that she’ll read like a book, so you have to be careful! A bottle of perfume or some chocolates may be good gifts at one point in a relationship, but may then be a slap in the face at another. Don’t lose hope! Buying some nice gifts for girlfriends can be a lot easier than you’d think. Step number one; don’t panic. So you only have two days left, big deal. You can do a lot in two days. Panicking will just make you buy something on impulse, which is never the best way to go. Take a deep breath and think about the issue rationally. First of all, ask yourself what kind of message you want to convey. This is the key. Continue Reading »
Birthday celebrations are the most ubiquitous party in the United States; far more people celebrate them than those that don’t. And, it’s hard to imagine a birthday partie without a birthday cake. For some people, birthday cakes can make or break good birthday parties. If the birthday cake is bad, a lot of guests will be disappointed.
First of all, birthday cakes come in all shapes and sizes, but the first decision needs to be where you want to get the cake or even if you want it to be a cake at all! There was a trend in the late 90’s of using birthday cookie cakes – essentially a chocolate chip cookie the size of a pizza! However, I would recommend that when you’re throwing your parties, go with traditional birthday cakes; no need to get cute. Obviously, any major supermarket or large grocer will have a couple of pre-made birthday cakes available and will write a person’s name on with icing. Some of these stores will also make custom birthday cakes, though that isn’t always the case. If you’re willing to spend a little more money, go to your favorite bakery. They’re always ready and willing and able to put together a cake on a few days notice. Remember, people aren’t going to look back much on the party, but I always remember the birthday cakes of the parties I went to. Another route to take would be to make any birthday cakes yourself. Assuming you have a decent hand in the kitchen, you can find thousands of recipes for birthday cakes on-line. The key to making a good cake isn’t just the recipe, it’s also the ingredients. Even something as simple as having fresh flour, organic eggs, fresh squeezed lemon juice instead of bottled, the best ingredients will elevate your birthday cakes from ordinary to special for little money. Even if you have only one child, there are plenty of occasions for girl’s parties throughout the year. It’s always nice to be able to provide party favors for the guests to take home, but sometimes this can be an expensive addition to the party. Here we have some ideas for cheap party favors that win applause from the kids, whether they’re first graders, pre-teens or teens. Each of these party favors can be wrapped in tissue paper and tied shut with a strand of ribbon. You can put one package in front of each girl’s place setting, or put them all together in a big basket to hand out as the kids are leaving for home. Kids love surprises and it’s a nice ‘thank you’ to the kids for coming to join in the party celebrations.
First, where to look for cheap party favors: craft stores, the discount dime stores, toy departments and dollar type stores are good places to shop. Thrift stores are good for kid’s jewelry, cute little figurines and other one-of-a-kind party favors. For young kids, a box of crayons, markers, coloring books and stickers are always a great choice. As you probably know, kids always need a good supply of these play time staples. There’s no such thing as too many! Craft shops always have a big selection of rubber stamps, with dozens of designs, for as little as 50 cents each. Check the toy section of the dollar type stores for bins of those flexible, Gumby-style characters, sticker packages and little bottles of lotion. Jars of bubble soap, with a wand attached, is another delightful, but absolutely cheap party favor, which provides hours of entertainment. Miniature toy cars and trucks make a good prop for games which involve dolls or Gumby characters traveling to imaginary locations over hill and dale. Continue Reading »
Coming up with creative party theme ideas gets harder and harder the older you get. When you’re a kid, coming up with creative parties is really easy. Basically, all you have to do is be the first to have a theme party dedicated to a particular show or character that you and your friends like. If your best buddy had a Ninja Turtles party last week, you can have a Mighty Morphing Power Rangers party this week, for example. If your friend had his Yu-Gi-Oh party, have a Pokémon birthday party. Your friends will all be happy with it as long as they are getting candy and goodie bags.
People start to come up with the real creative parties once they get to college, however. Most of the really creative party theme ideas for college parties have to do with outlandish costumes that will allow people to show off what they got. Some of them are whimsical, while others are downright bawdy. It doesn’t matter. College kids like all of those parties. They provide people with an excuse to really cut loose while they drink – not that most of these kids need an excuse. The really challenging thing is coming up with creative party theme ideas for a coworker party. Parties with your coworkers have to strike a delicate balance. On one hand, offices are adult places and your coworkers are likely to have adult tastes. They want to drink, flirt, dance, and have a good time. On the other hand, you want a party that is not too risqué. You don’t want to offend anyone, and you don’t want stories going around the next day. All in all, the more creative your party theme ideas, The more you might have to answer for. Continue Reading »
