New Moms: Should You Return To Work?

Are You Returning To Work Or Staying Home With Your New Baby? The birth of a new child is a fun, adventurous, and memorable experience. Although work may be the farthest thing from your mind right now, it is something that you may want to take the time to think about. After having a baby, a large number of women wonder whether or not they should return to work.

When it comes to determining if you should return to work after having a baby, there are a number of important factors that you will want to take into consideration. For many women, money is an issue. How is your current financial situation? Before your baby was born, were you relying on one or two incomes? This simple question may play an important role in your decision. Many women are able to stay at home with their children if they have another source of income, like a regular paycheck from their spouse or live in partner.

Although money may be an issue for you, when determining if you should return to work after the birth of your child, it is also important to examine the money that you may save. As a parent, you likely wouldn’t send your child to just any daycare center. Unfortunately, daycare providers that come highly rated and recommend often have high fees. It is not uncommon for parents to pay one hundred dollars or more a week in childcare expenses, just for one child. It is also important to examine the reduction in work purchased snacks and drinks, as well as gasoline to and from work. After this comparison, you may find that staying home with your child, after their birth, is actually a cost effective solution.

When determining if you should return to work after the birth of your child, you are also urged to examine the benefits of staying home. From birth to the toddler age, children are at an important stage in their life. Many experts have stated that close contact between parents and their children can help improve their relationship, as well as improve their developmental skills, as someone is working with them at all times. These are just important factors to take into consideration.  Continue Reading »

Choosing A Name For Your Baby Is A Big Job!

ss 22964663 Choosing A Name For Your Baby Is A Big Job!One of the first challenges that new parents face (other than never getting any sleep) is choosing a name for their new baby. This may sound like no-brainer and something low on the list of priorities, when faced with the seemingly daunting world of parenthood. Even so, choosing baby names can be very time-consuming, frustrating and even a source of frustration for new parents.

There are so many things to consider when selecting the perfect name for your child. Many parents don’t have a clue about where to begin and feel completely overwhelmed. The best place to start is with a list. Both parents should take a few minutes and jot down the first ten baby names that come to mind that they would deem suitable for the new baby. It’s not as difficult as it sounds – it’s actually surprising, how many unique and quality names have been stored in your memory, just as you go through your every day life. Make sure that you list names for both boys and girls, unless you already know the sex of your baby.

Once the lists are complete, both parents should sit down and eliminate any names that either parent objects to. Even if only a couple of names remain between the two lists, this is a good start.

The next step, after this brainstorming session, is to define some agreed upon parameters for your baby names. Think about and discuss your preferences for cultural backgrounds, family names and number of syllables. You can also narrow it down to include only names starting with specific letters. Make sure that you keep plenty of paper handy and be aware when you are out and about. Listen for potential names when you’re in the grocery store, listening to the radio and walking through a park. You’ll be surprised at how tuned in you become.

Make sure to use the Internet when hunting for baby names. So much of the work is already done for you. Using any search engine, type in the phrase ‘baby names’ and a huge amount of websites will appear, handling all facets of the subject. You can narrow down your search any way you wish. There are even forums where you can browse other people’s name ideas and post your own to get unbiased feedback as you work through your choices.

As you start to narrow down your list, pay special attention to the potential for teasing. Think of any negative words that may rhyme with or sound like the names you are considering. Also, look out for undesirable letter combinations formed by the initials of any baby names that have made it on your list.

Try writing out the names that you come up with and make sure to say them out loud, to ensure that they roll of the tongue with ease. Again, be aware of any similarities to negative words or phrases that may be formed by certain name combinations. Continue Reading »

Asthma Treatment Options For Pregnant Women

dscf1265 sm Asthma Treatment Options For Pregnant WomenAsthma treatments come in many shapes and forms. People who suffer from the breathing disorder have quite a few options to consider. Physicians can prescribe a number of medications that prove to be successful in relieving the symptoms associated with the suffocating affliction. However, the options wane when the person looking for treatment is pregnant.

One of the most exciting times in a woman’s life is when she is expecting a baby. The mother goes through a lot of emotional and physical changes during this time in her life. Some of the physical changes are unexpected and uncomfortable. A woman can find herself sleepless, irritable and nauseous.

Having breathing problems on top of all of the other symptoms of pregnancy can really be a burden. Finding appropriate asthma treatments that can be administered during pregnancy can put the woman’s mind at ease. However, finding asthma treatments is not always so easy especially if you are pregnant.

Asthma is quite common in the United States and other countries around the world. Anyone who has suffered an asthma attack knows the symptoms. An exacerbation, or attack, involves coughing wheezing and the frightening feeling of being unable to get any air. Some describe an exacerbation as drowning in air. Asthma treatments are developed to alleviate the symptoms associated with the attack.

Unfortunately, the developing baby in the womb takes in oxygen through his mother’s breathing. If the mother isn’t getting any air, neither is the fetus. The baby is dependant on the mother’s breathing to get the appropriate supply of oxygen he needs to survive. When a woman has an exacerbation, the baby is at risk for not getting enough oxygen. This can be very dangerous to the developing fetus. Continue Reading »

Do You Need Maternity Insurance?

pregnancy no insurance Do You Need Maternity Insurance? For any woman, the period of pregnancy is probably the most important phase of her life. This maternity phase brings with it a great amount of joy, anticipation and expectation. But this period can also be characterized by doubts, unease and worry. These negative issues could be compounded if financial burden has to be borne by the expectant mother. While most women in western societies nowadays have Medicaid and other such benefits, it is also crucially important for them to go in for insurance, and more specifically maternity insurance.

Most expectant mothers assume, and very conveniently at that, that their maternity expenses will be covered under their Medicaid. But god forbid, their pregnancy happens to be complicated, they might come in for a nasty surprise. For even if the complications are ironed out and the mother and baby are fine, hale and hearty, the crippling medical costs might not be covered under their medical benefits scheme. This is where maternity insurance comes into the picture. Maternity insurance, like sever other event specific insurance policies, is a way to prepare oneself to tide over any unexpected expenses during the maternity period. By paying a few dollars upfront, mothers and their families can rest assured in the knowledge that if, by chance, something goes wrong with their pregnancy and unforeseen complications arise, they will have the financial means to take care of it. Just Because I’m Having A Baby Doesn’t Mean I’m Becoming One

maternityclothes Just Because Im Having A Baby Doesnt Mean Im Becoming OneWhatever the joys of having a baby are (I haven’t gotten there yet) they must be substantial for the human race not to have died out completely by this point. There is nothing, and I mean nothing in this world, more difficult and depressing than pregnancy. Your body swells up to a shape perfectly inconvenient for – well – everything. You get moody. You get strange food cravings at all hours, day and night. Your body becomes sensitive and generally grouchy and unhappy with you. But worst of all are the maternity clothes.

I know, I know. I should be more tolerant of my own body. My therapist says I should even be proud. I mean, I’m bringing a new life into the world, and I guess I don’t look too bad for a pregnant woman. But I feel just awful in my maternity clothing. I mean, would they make something called a “moo moo” if it didn’t make the wearer feel like a fat cow?

Of course, I don’t spend my days in moo moos. Far from it. My maternity clothes are just grotesque, misshapen versions of my normal clothes – mostly maternity jeans and maternity t-shirts, thank you very much. But still, I can’t help but notice some difference with maternity clothes besides the abnormal size. I’ve never seen so much cutesy stuff – teeshirts with kittens, stars, and rainbows for goodness sake. Just because I’m having a baby doesn’t mean I’m becoming one. Maternity clothes should not look like baby clothes.

And the silliest of all are the maternity clothes designed to look elegant. I mean you wouldn’t believe the things they sell on internet maternity clothes sites. I even found one selling maternity evening gowns. Can you even image it? Sleek, velvet, graceful lines descending to my round, bloated belly. Continue Reading »

Maternity Belts: Extra Support For The Growing Belly

Anita baby belt Maternity Belts: Extra Support For The Growing BellyAsk any pregnant woman and she will tell you that the one thing she absolutely needs during her pregnancy is support for the belly. This is where an entire business has risen to cater to her pregnancy needs. And no product has proven to be as popular or as much in demand as the simple, yet effective, maternity belt. Not all pregnant moms use maternity belts. In fact, some of them have the body structure that enables them to breeze through their pregnancy. But some women do need extra support for the growing belly. And for the likes of them, a maternity belt can prove to be immensely advantageous. While there is much discussion among doctors, practitioners of maternity medicine and even academicians, one thing is for sure; women who need additional support for their day to day activities, and especially those who indulge in strenuous exercise, do require the additional support. And this is provided to them in the form of the maternity belt.

A good maternity belt will have a number of special features. While providing support, the maternity belt must be comfortable, yet elastic enough not to cramp the stomach muscles. It should be made of an airy material that allows the stomach and covered areas to breathe and should b ergonomically designed in order to provide the maximum, functional comfort. A good maternity belt is much more than a mere piece of elastic! It is a carefully designed garment that can help expectant mothers relieve some of the pain that goes with carrying around a swollen belly. More importantly, by working as it is designed to do, a good maternity belt can help remove almost completely the back pain that most women associate with pregnancy and a swollen belly.
